The 2008 Smart Cars are definately HOT right now, and with tens of thousands of them on back-order, getting your smart car could take a very long time if you ordered today and just waited. To get your Smart Car faster, you need to be proactive, and if you are really motivated to move a bit closer to the front of the line, you wlll probably need to pay a bit extra and be flexible about features and options.
450 MODELS: For ten years, until 2007, Smart built the 450 model Smart ForTwo, plus the Smart Roadster and the Smart ForFour. At one point, these 450 models became the top selling cars in the world, and it was this model that was featured in the Da Vinci Code movie. None of the pre-2007 models, as they came off the assembly line, however, were street legal in the United States. Therefore, if you are looking at purchasing a pre-2007 Smart Car, make sure that the vehicle has been modified to be street legal in the US. WHAT IS AN ORPHAN?
An orphan is a car that was ordered but the reservation was cancelled
by the owner prior to final delivery. Orphans are fairly rare,
especially this early in the game, and every dealer has a different
approach to dealing with orphans. In Arizona, the best way to secure
an orphan is to add your name to the "interest list" and Smart Center
of Chandler will call you if you are next in line and the car matches
your selection criteria. The Chandler dealership is committed to
delivering every car to an owner in the State of Arizona, so you must
be an Arizona resident to add your name to the interest list.
Currently, the interest list is long and adding your name to the end
will not guarantee a car quickly, but if you are flexible about color
and features, and you make it clear that you will take ANYTHING, it is
still possible to jump way ahead on the list.
EBAY MOTORS
- Currently, the easiest way to take immediate delivery of a 2008 Smart
Car is to buy it on eBay, but we should probably re-emphasise the
auction mantra: "Buyer Beware." Many listings on eBay are for pre-2007
models, and some vehicles listed on eBay are for vehicles that are not
street legal in the US.
