“What makes a successful car club” you ask….I’ve had the
opportunity to ask car enthusiast from across the country this
very question and 9 out of 10 always say “It’s the people” which means more
events….That’s right, most car owners say the reason they join a local club
is to meet new people….but you can’t meet new people with out an event to go-to
in the first place. An event can be considered anything from an impromptu
Saturday afternoon drive to a fully coordinated local event.
Keeping a
local club alive is directly related to how many events the club hosts annually.
As a club grows one of the positions that should be created is an “Events
Chairperson”. This person is usually a board member (But doesn’t have to be)
and they chair and “Events Committee”. The Events Committee can be made up of
as many members as needed and they typically get together every other month (6
times a year) where they brainstorm as to what events should be planed and who
is going to take ownership of which event. Types of events are usually
dependent on the person planning the event as well as what time of the year it
is. For instance, if you are in Chicago
in the middle of January you will most likely not be planning a top down event
but more rather than an event to the movies or dinner at another member’s
home. If you are on the events committee
in Arizona come August you are gearing up for
the beautiful windows down drive up to the North Country
to watch the leaves change colors.
In the end
successful car clubs are the one’s that are active with lots of events.
Remember, not every member will attend every event but you have to have planned
events in order for your members to attend. If you would like more information
on how to build a successful Events Committee with in your club please feel free
to drop me a line.
